The Iowas caucus took place last night, and the results are in.
For the Democrats, Barack Obama ruled the evening with thirty-eight percent of the vote. John Edwards received thirty-two percent, squeaking by Hillary Clinton, and treated it like a victory. The biggest surprise to me was that Hillary, who has been described so many times as the “inevitable” candidate, managed only to place third with twenty-nine percent.
On the Republican side, Mike Huckabee was the clear winner with thirty-four percent of the vote. The media is making this out to be a big deal, but it shouldn’t be; Huckabee has been practically living in Iowa for months trying to drum up support. Mitt Romney received a respectable twenty-five percent of the vote, and Fred Thompson and John McCain practically tied with approximately thirteen percent each.
