No Celebration for Jamestown’s 400th Anniversary

This May marks four hundred years since the founding of Jamestown, the first permanent English settlement on the American continent. But don’t expect the organizers of events recognizing the anniversary to use the word “celebration.” After all, according to members of the Jamestown 2007 team, the settlement was actually “an invasion” where “whole tribes were annihilated.”

Somehow, that got left out of my history books as a child.
