Guillermo Cañas Breaks Federer’s Winning Streak

After forty-one consecutive wins, Roger Federer’s winning streak is over. Federer, who was quickly approaching the record of forty-six singles victories set by Guillermo Vilas in 1977, was defeated by another Guillermo — Argentine tennis player Guillermo Cañas, who coincidentally was named after Vilas. Cañas defeated the World No. 1 in straight sets at the Pacific Life Open in Indian Wells, California.

The last person to defeat Roger Federer in an official match was Andy Murray back in August, although Andy Roddick did beat the tennis champ in an exhibition match in January.
