House Passes a Timetable for Withdrawal from Iraq

The U.S. House of Representatives has approved a war spending bill which requires that U.S. forces be out of Iraq by September of 2008, possibly even sooner if the Iraqi government does not meet prescribed benchmarks. The legislation passed mostly along party lines in a 218–212 vote. If the bill also makes it through the Senate, President Bush will certainly veto it.
