Chuck Hagel Talks Presidential Impeachment

Nebraska senator Chuck Hagel was on This Week with George Stephanopoulos yesterday and while discussing the President’s war policy, mentioned the I-word: “The president says, ‘I don’t care.’ … He’s not accountable anymore, which isn’t totally true. You can impeach him, and before this is over, you might see calls for his impeachment. I don’t know. It depends how this goes.”

It sounds like Senator Hagel is more than willing to consider impeachment as an viable option for handling a disagreement with the President on the war; however, the Constitution disagrees.

Hagel went on to say, “Well, any president who … will not respond to what the people of this country are saying about Iraq or anything else … if a president really believes that, then there are … ways to deal with that.” Nice threat there, Senator.
