No Jail Time for Scooter Libby

President George W. Bush has commuted the “excessive” prison sentence of Lewis “Scooter” Libby, who was convicted for perjury and obstruction of justice in the Valerie Plame affair. Libby will still have to serve two years of probation and pay a $250,000 fine (or get some rich Republican friends to pay it for him).

Although not a full pardon, the sentence commutation is a welcome event for many conservatives who felt that the former Chief of Staff to Dick Cheney was unfairly targeted by special prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald.
