President Bush Makes a Little Girl Cry

The title of this post is not the whole truth, but I am sure plenty of liberal blogs will report it as such.

Here is what happened: President Bush was in Cleveland, Ohio a couple of days ago giving a speech to a business group there. Following his speech, there was a question-and-answer period. One of those who was selected to ask a question was Jessica Hackerd, a shy thirteen-year-old from Brecksville, Ohio. Her question was as follows: “Mr. President, I know immigration has been a big problem in the U.S. And what is your next step with the immigration bill?”

Immigration is obviously a little bit of a sore subject with the President since his plan for comprehensive immigration reform failed to receive widespread support. Understandably, Bush was not looking forward to talking about it.

“Yeah, thanks,” the President replied sarcastically, prompting laughter from the gathered crowd of about four hundred. But for young Jessica, Bush’s reply and the attention it brought caused the girl to started to tear up.

Jessica said afterward that she began crying because she was very nervous. I can relate. I was so terribly introverted at her age that if I had been in her place, I probably would have bawled far worse than she.

It is worth noting that the President quickly realized his error in judgment and reassured the girl when he saw the tears begin to flow. “It’s a great question. No, I appreciate that,” he told Jessica before launching into a 1,100-word response about immigration. “It’s a great question by the way, and I’m glad you asked it,” Bush reiterated while still answering her question, as he saw the girl continue to wipe away the tears.

After the Q&A, Bush met with Jessica and her family backstage and thanked her one last time for the question. “He said it was the first time anybody had asked him about [immigration] since it happened,” Jessica said after meeting with the President. “He said it was really brave of me to do that and he said he probably wouldn’t have been able to do that.”

So, you see, President Bush isn’t such a meanie after all — unless, of course, you happen to believe that he stole two Presidential elections, secretly planned the destruction of the World Trade Center, prevented FEMA from acting quickly in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, and has maliciously waged an illegal war and killed thousands of innocent people in order to make more money for Halliburton’s executives. If that is the case, then I can’t help you.
