Bonds Ties Hank Aaron’s Home Run Record

Barry Bonds of the San Francisco Giants hit a home run during the second inning of the team’s game against the San Diego Padres last night. There is nothing amazing about that fact alone. What is impressive is that it was the seven hundred fifty-fifth home run of Bonds’s twenty-one-year career in Major League Baseball, and that particular homer tied Bonds with Hall-of-Famer Hank Aaron for the most career home runs in MLB history.

What isn’t very impressive is the realization that Barry Bonds probably was assisted in making many of those home runs through the use of steroids or other performance-enhancing drugs, and that the allegations of drug use will likely mar his record for as long as it stands.
