Roddick Is Knocked Out of the U.S. Open by Federer

I made a mistake the other day; I commented that I would like to see Andy Roddick in the final of this year’s U.S. Open. What I forgot was that Roddick is in the top half of the draw — same as über-champ Roger Federer. The only way that the talented American could make it to the final would be to first defeat the best player in tennis today — and possibly of all time.

Not surprisingly that didn’t happen. Roddick and Federer — both wearing a depressing shade of black in the midst of summer — played each other yesterday in a quarterfinal match, and despite Roddick playing his absolute best, he could not overcome “Darth Federer.” The swiss champ won the match 7–6 (5), 7–6 (4), 6–2.
